“CRAVE” BY SARAH KANE
Greg Kowalski will present a fragment of “Crave” – a play written in 1998 by the late English playwright Sarah Kane. Approximately one third of the play will be performed as this is still a work in progress. “Crave” is a quartet of voices “that pour out their souls in a torrent of emotions, ideas, memories and desires.” It is a poem, a deliberate experiment with form, language, rhythm and music. In the words of Sarah Kane: “I wanted to find out how good a poet I could be while still writing something dramatic.”
The sound design is by Dave Seidel who will perform live during the play. Dei Xhrist and Susan Peperman graciously contributed their voices.
PETER J WOODS’ “THE ASTRONAUT SESTINA: A PLAY IN WHICH THE AUDIENCE GOES DEAF”
In the Astronaut Sestina, Woods explores themes of power and compliance by manipulating and exploiting common theatrical structures. A man on stage guides an audience through a series of repetitive and increasingly horrific experiences until the script collides with an inescapable and illogical conclusion.
Whether Gravander is creating a forum for play and interactivity; testing the limits of antiquated technology or the boundaries between sound and light; or inquiring into the nature of time and space (even the weak magnets in a VCR can bend time and space: VHS tape can be manipulated to play faster, slower, forwards, backwards; it can be delayed, erased entirely, or held in place indefinitely), his experiments exist on the border between new media and sculpture, and some of them are objects of great formal beauty that ask us to see in an entirely new way.

BPWS is the ever changing collaboration between Woods and Gravander. Even though the group only started performing a year ago, they have already tackled the mediums of noise-rock, free-improv, live film works and now performance art. For this tour, BPWS will be performing “Six Tasks,” a brand new fluxus-inspired performance art piece.
